Format: MP4 (H.264 / AAC)
Instagram uses a different link format for each type of post. Look at the start of your link to see if this tool can open it.
| Link starts with | Post type | Works here |
|---|---|---|
| instagram.com/reel/ | Reels | Yes ✓ |
| instagram.com/p/ | Feed posts and carousel posts | Yes, if post has video ✓ |
| instagram.com/tv/ | Older long videos (IGTV) | Yes ✓ |
| instagram.com/stories/ | Stories | No ✗ |
| Any link from a private account | Private content | No ✗ |
A /p/ link can hold only photos. In that case there is no video to save, so the tool has nothing to return.
The steps are almost the same on every device. The main difference is where the file goes after you download it.

Paste the link into the box and click Download Video. Your browser saves the MP4 to the Downloads folder, or asks where to save it. Open the file with any video player.

"In 2023 Instagram began letting people download public Reels from the Share menu, and it later rolled the option out worldwide. Creators keep control of it. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that 'public accounts can turn off the ability for people to download their reels'."
Adam Mosseri • Head of InstagramFind your downloaded MP4 file instantly based on your device and browser operating system:
| Device | Saved to | How to find it |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone and iPad | Files app | Files, then Downloads. Use Save Video to add it to Photos. |
| Android | Downloads folder | Files, then Downloads, or the Downloads album in Gallery |
| Windows | Downloads folder | File Explorer, then Downloads |
| Mac | Downloads folder | Finder, then Downloads |
You get an MP4 file. MP4 plays on phones, tablets, laptops and smart TVs, so you do not need to convert it.
Instagram recommends a size of 1080 by 1920 pixels for Reels. This tool saves the largest file Instagram offers for the post. In most cases that is up to 1080p. The tool does not upscale the video or add pixels that were never there.
Not from Instagram itself. Instagram compresses videos to save bandwidth, so a video filmed in 4K is stored at a smaller size. A site that promises a 4K file is stretching a smaller video, and that makes the file bigger without making it sharper.
The file you save can never be better than the version Instagram stores. If the original upload was low resolution, shot in dim light, or sent through a chat app before it was posted, it will look soft. A quick test helps: play the same video inside Instagram. If it looks soft there, the downloaded file will match it.
Instagram has a few built-in options, so check them first. In 2023 Instagram began letting people download public Reels from the Share menu, and it later rolled the option out worldwide. Creators keep control of it. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that "public accounts can turn off the ability for people to download their reels".
| Method | Works for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram Download button | Public Reels, when the creator allows it | The saved Reel shows the creator's handle on the video. Not every video has the button. |
| Save inside Instagram | Any post you can see | This adds the post to your Saved tab. It does not create a file on your device. |
| Screen recording | Anything on your screen | The recording can pick up buttons, captions and notifications. Quality is usually lower. |
| This downloader | Public videos, Reels and older long videos | You get the MP4 file Instagram serves. Public posts only. |
Open the Share menu on your video first. If you see a Download option, you can use it. If you do not, paste the link into the box at the top of this page.
A downloader is safe when it asks for very little. This tool needs one thing from you, which is the link of a public video. It does not ask for your Instagram username or password. It does not ask you to install an app or a browser extension.
The answer depends on what you do with the video and where you live. This section gives general information and is not legal advice. The creator owns the copyright to a video, even when the account is public.
Most errors come from the link or from the post itself. Check this table before you try again.
| Problem | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The post is private | Only approved followers can see it | Ask the creator to send you the file |
| The post was deleted | The link no longer points to a video | Open link in Instagram to confirm it exists |
| The /p/ post has only photos | There is no video in it | Use a link that opens a video |
| You pasted a Story link | Stories are not supported here | Use link to post, Reel or long video |
| The link is cut off | The copy was not complete | Use Copy link in Instagram again |
| The page is slow | The request took too long | Wait a few seconds, refresh and try again |
| Browser blocks the file | A setting or extension stops downloads | Try another browser or turn off blocker |
"This tool saves public videos only. Private accounts share their posts with approved followers, and there is no safe way around that choice. A tool that claims to open private videos is a warning sign. It may be trying to steal your Instagram login."
Privacy Notice & Creator PermissionsInstagram reached about 3 billion monthly users in September 2025, and Meta said in July 2026 that 2 billion people open the app every day. That much video gives people many reasons to keep a copy.
A saved file plays without a connection. This helps on flights, trains and slow mobile data.
People keep old clips from friends and family so they can watch them later.
Editors, dancers and teachers save examples for study. They keep these for private use.
Brands and fans sometimes save a video after the creator says they can share it.
